yesterday, we went to the alamo flea market here in the valley. lets just say, it was an experience! we went in search for some retro games. recently, orly and i have been watching retro liberty: the nes pursuit on youtube. it's these two guys who collect anything retro game related. i gotta say, watching their show makes me really jealous of all the cool games, consoles, posters, etc., that they have! some of the stuff they bring up, i'm clueless on but orly knows more or less what they're talking about. i was more of a mario bros gamer when i was a kid so i don't know too much. i mean, i did play donkey kong, zelda and pokemon but it was mainly anything mario!
while watching this show, orly will call out.. oh i have that, i have that too! and thank goodness because all i'm thinking about when i'm watching their show is.. "omg i want that! i want that for our future kids!" i want them to experience the games that i grew up with (btw, i have been having some major baby fever, everyone is preggers and i'm jealous.. more on that later). i can't remember but i'm pretty sure my parents sold all of our old stuff in garage sales or something. we had one a few months ago and i saw someone go for my old super nintendo and my mom was like "betty, how much should we sell this for?" i got it from that lady and said "oh, i'm so sorry this isn't supposed to be in here!!" there's no way i'm going to give that up, especially since orly's doesn't work (we tested it about a year ago). anyway, orly apparently has a good collection and now we're hooked!
the nes pursuit go to swap meets like every week which i'm guessing are like flea markets in california, yeah they are. every week they find games for like two-three dollars a pop, games that online go for like $20! that's insane! and that's why orly and i have agreed to attend at least one local flea market every week. we want to find hidden treasures like that!
at the alamo flea market, we didn't really find too much and everything we did find, was way over priced! i went in search for a sega genesis and any sonic game! i never had it when i was a kid but my childhood best friend did and we would play all the time! i did find one, but they wanted $50 for it! yeah, no i wasn't going to pay $50. we did end up buying 2 or 3 nes games. but these people knew what these games were worth at this flea market because all the games we did see were going for like $10-$15! i wanna pay like $2-$6 and we did get some deals but not amazing ones like retro liberty! at least i got a cute antique jewelry box for two bucks! we'll be going to a different, smaller flea market next sunday! hopefully, we find some good games!
all night, orly and i were looking on craigslist and ebay.. and lets just say we went a little crazy! we've been bidding on bundles and we've been getting some really good deals! i even got my sega genesis with 4 controllers, 4 games in their original boxes and 3 other loose games for less than $35! steal!!! and i'm so excited to play.. it should be coming in sometime this week! after we got that, we didn't stop there! we kept buying and buying and maybe once i receive them, we'll post what we have! we also want to go to orly's parents house and search the attic for all his old games so we can have them!
today when i got out of work, orly asked me if i wanted to check out this huge thrift store we have here in the valley called texas thrift store. we saw an episode yesterday where ricky (one if the guys in the nes pursuit) found two gameboy advances at i believe a goodwill in california for $1.99 each! we didn't find anything like that but i didn't leave empty handed either! i found these cute colorful small plates that i can use for decoration and the gorgeous bowl! oh and another cute antique jewelry box! i've already envisioned how i want mine and orlys future house to look like with and these will be perfect for what i have planned! and a dollar each plate.. not too shabby!
we also went to this new retro game store in edinburg. it was pretty cool, we bought three games, two in the original box. we kinda knew we weren't getting the best deal on the games like retro liberty do but we figured he just opened his shop and it's good to support local businesses (still checking ebay every hour though and still going to the flea market on saturday).
i don't normally go to flea markets here in the valley. or anywhere really! but i have mentioned in a few posts that i've been wanting to go just to see what i find. you never know! i've shopped at thrift store in the past but never down here, it was pretty cool! really excited about these plates and jewelry boxes!
below are some pictures of the nifty stuff we bought. i can't wait until saturday! hope y'all's monday has been great, well what's left of it!
orly already has this game but i told him, i may want two or more of everything!
we're probably going to need some cleaning products to clean these games out.. any suggestions?
i have plans for this jewelry box. i do like the brown wood but recently one of my aunt has been on a diy frenzy and painting all her furniture white and i gotta say, i am really digging it. i think this jewelry box would look adorable painted white. i will probably get some paint tomorrow and see how it goes!
decorating tip: if you find cute small plates or bowls that look antique-ish buy them! use the plates on your night table to store, earrings, money, jewelry, etc., can be very useful and look adorable too! a little recommendation from my aunt and it gives the room a little pop of color! the bowls you can use and place them on a stack of old but cute magazines (like the september issues of vogue and elle!) and place it on a cute side table at the front entrance of your house to store keys, money (again), wallet, etc.
i got two of the yellow plates but that's only because they were 99 cents. might give one to my sister, might keep it.. i don't know yet!
this cute jewelry box i am actually going to keep as is. i do love the color and the pink velvet inside gives it an old look to it, i love it! three dolla holla!
orly got aladdin, because 1) that's his favorite disney movie, 2) one of his favorite games on the super nintendo but apparently there's a sword you can use on the sega version, 3) it's boxed and 4) our sega system should get here sometime this week and we're excited to play!
if he gets to buy aladdin then i get to buy sonic! ;)
orly also got the x-men for snes which is actually in pretty great condition!
we had a great time thrift shopping and retro game hunting. if you all have a chance, you should check out the nes pursuit on youtube, i'm watching one as we speak. we haven't seen all of them and orly has watched a lot without me.. grr but hopefully i will catch up soon!
